Contrary to popular belief, there is more to Tenerife than just sun, sea and sangria. There is a variety of activities to try and many interesting places to visit. Below is just a small selection.

1. Mount Teide. This is the highest mountain in Spain and rises to a height of over 3000 metres. On a fine day spectacular views can be seen from the top.

5 The Dragon Tree at Icod. The tree is said by local legend to be over 1000 years old.

6. Las Galletas. The imposing black cliffs
looking towards the town from Ten Bel.

4. La Gomera. The island of Gomera, about 25 miles west of Tenerife can be reached by a ferry from Los Cristianos. These pictures show a typical Gomeran farmhouse and the view of San Sebastian with Tenerife in the background.

2. Masca This mediaeval village high in the mountains is worth a visit, but the drive there is a little daunting.

3. The pyramids at Guimar Similar to the pyramids in Mexico and Peru, the Guimar site also displays replicas of Thor Heyerdahl’s reed boats in which he crossed the Atlantic.
